This week I was observed. Part of my planning for my lesson I
had to follow standard 5, The competent teacher differentiates instruction by
using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking,
problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom
is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to
enhance learning for each student. That was because there are so many different
types of learners in my classroom. They each had a different job during the
lesson, turn the page, read the repeated story line and answer questions.
My Cooperating teacher seems t be stepping back more and more.
She asked me questions like, “what would you do if” or what do you think we
should do here.” It seems like I will be taking over the classroom very soon,
and I am very excited.
Something that I learned a lot this week goes with standard
7, The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and
summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student
progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data
about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet
the needs of each student. My teacher and were collecting baseline data and discussing
different ways to do assessment while planning for m EDTPA.
Instruction informed by data is what special education is all about and you seem to be getting a good handle on this concept. I very much appreciated the differentiated instruction that occurred within your lesson. The more you get to know your students and your subject matter the more this will become second nature to you. Your blog shows you are making great progress in your thinking and planning for students based on their needs. You made good connections to the standards this week. As you continue to blog, I am going to push you to include more details describing the week, what you are doing, planning and what your CT student and students are doing.
